Tips for planning your luxury trip
Bookmark this if you like concise planning.
- Itinerary shape. Two or three bases in 9 to 12 days, for example Sydney, Uluru, Reef. Avoid one night stands, check in fatigue is real. Keego travellers doing the Great Barrier Reef said a full free day after the flight made snorkelling less tiring.
- Internal flights. Qantas and Virgin are reliable. Business seats help on early starts. Prices swing. Book 6 to 8 weeks out for better fares. We have shifted a couple to an earlier Qantas service to save their reef day from weather delays, it paid off.
- Money. Cards everywhere. India issued Visa and Mastercard work fine. UPI is not accepted. ATMs exist but you will rarely need cash for luxe spots. Tipping is not customary, round up for standout service.
- Veg, vegan, halal. Give 48 hours notice for tasting menus. Chefs accommodate well with advance heads up. We always flag no onion garlic or Jain requests in writing. For halal, call ahead and ask for seafood or vegetarian pathways if certified halal is not available.
- Drinks and BYO. Some restaurants allow BYO wine with corkage. Check your booking confirmation for fees and limits. Always carry physical ID if you look under 25.
- Connectivity. Get a Telstra or Optus SIM at arrival. Expect about ₹1,500 to ₹2,500 for 28 day packs with 30 to 60 GB. Official, www.telstra.com.au and www.optus.com.au, Checked, June 2026.
- Power. Australia uses Type I plugs. Carry a universal adapter.
- GST refunds on shopping. Tourists may claim a refund at departure for eligible purchases from a single retailer above the threshold within 60 days of travel. Official, Tourist Refund Scheme, www.abf.gov.au/entering-and-leaving-australia/tourist-refund-scheme, Last checked, June 2026.
Common mistakes Indians make, and fixes
- Underestimating distances. Australia is huge. Fix, choose two hubs max per week and fly between regions.
- Packing food that gets seized. Strict biosecurity. Fix, declare or skip homemade snacks. Official rules, www.abf.gov.au/entering-and-leaving-australia/can-you-bring-it-in, Checked, June 2026.
- Leaving big tickets late. Tasting menus and private flights sell out. Fix, lock marquee experiences 6 to 8 weeks ahead, more for school holidays.
- Expecting UPI. Not supported. Fix, carry a zero forex mark up card and a back up.
- Not checking sun strength. UV is high. Fix, SPF 50, hats, and long sleeves, even in winter.
- Forgetting early dining culture. Kitchens often close by 21:30. Fix, book early seatings or choose venues with later hours on weekends.
Planning for luxury travel experiences in Australia
- Budget anchor. A well planned 9 night luxury loop with 2 or 3 marquee experiences usually lands at ₹3,00,000 to ₹6,00,000 per person, excluding international flights. The spread depends on room category and how many private charters you add.
- When to go by region,
Sydney and Melbourne, September to November, March to May. Uluru and Red Centre, April to September for cooler nights. Great Barrier Reef, June to October for visibility and lower stinger risk.
- Getting around from the airport,
Sydney, private transfer into the CBD about ₹7,000 to ₹10,000 for a sedan, 30 to 45 minutes depending on traffic. Melbourne, CBD transfer about ₹7,000 to ₹9,000, 30 to 40 minutes. Uluru, resort shuttle is complimentary for many packages, confirm with your lodge. Plan a fully custom trip with a Keego travel expert
