Common mistakes Indians make, and easy fixes

  • Relying on UPI or RuPay. Fix, carry a Visa or Mastercard that supports contactless, plus a small GBP cash float. If your card fails at Tube gates, buy an Oyster.
  • Overpacking day 3 to 5. Fix, sleep in Bath after Oxford so Stonehenge is an easy half day, then stroll Bath by evening.
  • Skipping timed tickets. Fix, prebook Westminster Abbey, London Eye, Edinburgh Castle and Stonehenge. Aim for first slots, lines are shortest.
  • Underestimating distances. Fix, in the Lake District stay near Windermere station if you are car free. Buses thin out after 18:00.
  • Ordering food too spicy by default. Fix, British kitchens often salt and sauce generously. Ask for mild, and request sauces on the side.

Where to stay by vibe

  • London, Covent Garden or South Bank for walkability. Paddington or Kings Cross for value and fast links.
  • Bath, near Bath Spa station, everything is within 15 minutes on foot.
  • Edinburgh, Old Town for character, New Town for quieter nights and lifts.
  • Lake District, Bowness or Windermere to keep transfers easy.
  • York, within the walls between the station and the Minster.
