Day 2: Day 2: Nairobi – Amboseli National Park

Location: Amboseli National Park

After breakfast, check out and begin your private safari journey to Amboseli National Park, crowned by Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa's highest peak. Its name comes from a Maasai word meaning 'salty dust', and it is one of the best places in Africa to see large herds of elephants up close. Nature lovers can explore five habitats here, from the dried-up bed of Lake Amboseli to wetlands with sulphur springs, savannah and woodlands. Check in at the lodge and set out in the afternoon for your first game drive in the park.

Begin with a morning game drive, followed by breakfast at the lodge and the rest of the morning at leisure. Head out again for an afternoon game drive among the red-dusted elephants that roam freely across the park, often seen sprinkling their young with water at the lake. Enjoy clear views of Mount Kilimanjaro, the world's tallest free-standing mountain, and look out for some of the park's more than 400 bird species.
