Daily budget breakdown, what to expect

On our last London run we capped local spend with bakery lunches, £4 to £6 per pastry, and one solid dinner, £15 to £20 for mains. It kept daily food near ₹2,500.

India specific food tip, ask for “mild” in the UK or “sans épicé” in Paris for kids. Supermarkets stock ready vegan meals and hummus packs that pair well with bakery bread for ₹400 to ₹800 per person.

Hydration hack, tap water is drinkable across most of Europe. We refill at free city fountains to cut bottle spends. Paris has 1,200 plus public fountains, many with sparkling water. • First tap fail is common. We do one chip and PIN purchase at a supermarket on day one, then contactless works fine.
  • Low cost airline baggage and seats
  • Ryanair, only a small personal bag free. Priority with 2 cabin bags costs about €6 to €20 each way if booked early. Source, Ryanair baggage, https://www.ryanair.com/ie/en/plan-trip/travel-extras/baggage. Last checked: June 2026.

  • Paid toilets
  • Train stations and old town squares often charge €0.50 to €1. Carry coins.
  • Timed entry surcharges
  • Some museums add small booking fees in summer. We batch book weekly to reduce per ticket charges.
  • Airport transfers late at night
  • Heathrow Express is £25 onboard, cheaper online. Source, Heathrow Express prices, https://www.heathrowexpress.com/tickets-deals/tickets-prices. Last checked: June 2026. If landing after 23:00, factor Uber or black cab, £60 to £100 into central, traffic dependent.

Keego angle, we map these adds into our costing upfront so your final bill matches what you actually spend.

Best areas to stay for value

You want 15 to 25 minute metro rides, not cheap two train marathons. These pockets have worked well for us.

  • London
  • Hammersmith, Shepherd’s Bush, Stratford, Greenwich. Clean doubles ₹10,000 to ₹16,000 in shoulder months. Piccadilly, Central or Jubilee line gets you central in 15 to 25 minutes. First hand, we like Hammersmith for the Piccadilly line direct from Heathrow.
  • Paris
  • 11th, 12th, 14th, 15th arrondissements. Expect ₹9,000 to ₹15,000. Lines 1, 4, 6, 9 are your friends. We have walked from Nation to Le Marais in 25 minutes after dinner, felt safe and lively.
  • Amsterdam
  • Sloterdijk, Zuid, Amsterdam Noord. ₹12,000 to ₹18,000. Fast sprinters or North South metro, 10 to 15 minutes to Centraal. We used the free ferry from Noord at midnight, smooth.
  • Rome
  • San Giovanni, Testaccio, Trastevere. ₹8,000 to ₹13,000. Tram 8 for Trastevere into the centre is easy. Watch for Rome accommodation tax at check in.
  • Copenhagen
  • Osterbro, Amager near a metro stop. ₹12,000 to ₹20,000. Bikes are king, but we rely on the M2, M3 lines for fast hops.

If you plan Scandinavia in summer, book 6 to 8 weeks ahead. Prices jump 20 to 40 percent in July.

India specific room tip, most European doubles have one duvet even for two. If you prefer two, ask for twin beds while booking.

Worth it vs skip

  • Worth it, a guided day trip when it unlocks hard to reach spots, like Stonehenge with timed entry.
  • Skip for most, hop on hop off buses in compact cities like Amsterdam. A 24 hour tram ticket and a free ferry give better coverage for less.

Common mistakes Indians make, and easy fixes

  • Packing too much city hopping in a week. Result, heavy transit costs. Fix, 2 cities in 7 nights is plenty, add day trips instead.
  • Leaving Schengen appointment to the last month in May to July. Slots dry up. Fix, start 10 weeks out, keep employer NOC and bank statements clean and recent, last 6 months.
  • Underestimating food timing. Kitchens in parts of Italy and Spain shut 15:00 to 19:00. Fix, plan a big lunch, then aperitivo style snacks.
  • Counting on Indian plug pins working everywhere. Europe uses type C or F, 230V. Fix, carry a universal adapter and a small extension.
  • Assuming all places take cash. Many spots are card only in the Nordics. Fix, keep a zero forex card plus a backup.
  • Ignoring free water refill points, then buying bottles daily. Fix, carry a 750 ml bottle and use city fountains in Paris, Rome, Zurich, and London stations.

India specific dining tip, for veg or Jain, look for falafel, Margherita pizza, pasta arrabbiata without cheese, and salad bars that let you pick toppings. Halal is common around stations in London and Paris. We confirm “no alcohol in food” phrases at order time to avoid surprises. Plan a fully custom trip with a Keego travel expert Ready made, good value route through England and Scotland that thousands of Indians use for a first Europe trip.

A Journey through the United Kingdom from ₹1,62,999 for 11 nights, 12 days. Use this as your cost anchor, then layer flights, visas, meals and a few paid sights. Checked: June 2026 for price on our page.

Putting it together, your 10 day spend example

  • Flights, Mumbai to London return, ₹55,000 on a mid season sale
  • Visa, UK or Schengen, ₹12,000 or ₹8,600 plus service fees
  • Stay, ₹9,000 x 9 nights, ₹81,000, two share a room
  • Food, ₹2,500 x 10, ₹25,000
  • Local transport, ₹900 x 10, ₹9,000
  • Sights and day trips, ₹18,000
  • Hidden costs buffer, city taxes and fees, ₹6,000

Total, about ₹2,06,000 per person for the UK example, or ₹1,75,000 for Western Europe if you keep intercity moves low. We built three versions of this for recent travelers, and actuals landed within 5 to 8 percent of plan.

Best months to go, plus travel smart extras

Aim for April to June or September to October. Warm days, workable prices, and visas are less choked than July and August. Winter is cheaper, but short daylight can cramp sightseeing, especially in Scandinavia.

Travel smart extras

  • eSIM, we like prepaid Europe eSIM packs around €10 to €20 for 5 to 10 GB. Activate on Wi Fi before you leave India.
  • Cash, carry ₹8,000 to ₹12,000 worth in euros or pounds for small buys, keep most spend on card.
  • Safety, big stations are busy. Keep passports zipped inside a sling. We use under jacket pouches on intercity days.
  • Hotel deposits, some properties pre authorise on arrival. If your Indian card blocks it, ask to switch to pay at property or use a different card.

Ping us when you want a clean, priced itinerary with your dates and city mix. We will trim the fat and leave the fun.
